How do you over come the "need experience" obstacle for getting hired in a new career?
I graduated with highest honors from Colorado Technical University with a 3.83 GPA in medical coding and billing. I cannot even get my foot in the door because every business wants experienced people. Even front desk jobs say they want people that have experience with working in a medical office.
Anonymous: This "needs experience" is an obstacle in almost all fields. You got to know someone through networking and you got to learn from volunteer work. Both give you the advantage over other resumes just out of college and no work experience. School is changing, I just wish all of them would change at the same time. If you school doesn't give you opportunites for volunteer work then it is teaching the old way of school degree then work.
I did not want to believe that ageism existed, but I have to tell you that it is real and increases with age. I had to chuckle about "physiological aging" in your 40's however. Just wait for your 50's!
